Case Study: Breaking Cycles Through Trauma-Informed Empowerment
Client/Community Background
A local school district in Texas faced challenges with high absenteeism, behavioral disruptions, and low student engagement among at-risk youth. Many students were also dealing with unseen burdens of trauma at home, which directly affected their academic performance and emotional wellbeing.
The Challenge
Traditional interventions were not enough. Students needed more than academic support—they needed safe spaces, mentors, and tools to regulate emotions, build confidence, and envision a positive future.
Zealists’ Approach
Zealists introduced a trauma-informed mentorship and SEL program designed to empower students both inside and outside the classroom. Our model combined:
-
Mentorship Circles – Weekly sessions for students to share challenges and set goals.
-
Journaling Tools – The Bloom 30-Day Journal and Teen Mom Survival Journal provided guided reflection.
-
SEL Curriculum – Practical lessons in self-awareness, emotional regulation, and responsible decision-making.
-
Family Engagement – Workshops to involve parents and caregivers in supporting student growth.
Implementation
-
Conducted small group mentoring sessions twice a week for 12 weeks.
-
Partnered with teachers to integrate SEL strategies into daily lessons.
-
Facilitated empowerment workshops for students struggling with identity, motivation, and resilience.
Results
After one semester:
-
Attendance increased by 28% among participating students.
-
Behavior referrals dropped by 40%, as students adopted healthier coping strategies.
-
Teachers reported a 45% improvement in student focus and peer relationships.
-
Parent surveys showed stronger communication at home, with students expressing their feelings more openly.
One student reflected:
“I used to feel invisible. Zealists helped me find my voice and believe that my future matters.”
Impact
This program not only improved academic and behavioral outcomes but also created a culture of trust and belonging. Students left with skills to manage stress, make responsible choices, and pursue long-term goals.
Looking Ahead
Zealists is scaling this model to serve additional schools, community centers, and government-funded youth programs. Our goal is to continue breaking cycles of trauma and disadvantage—one student, one family, and one community at a time.
Zealists transforms lives through trauma-informed coaching, mentorship, and education—helping people heal, grow, and thrive.

Our History
Founded in response to a deep personal journey through trauma, loss, and transformation, Zealists was established to be more than just a coaching or consulting firm — it was created as a movement to ignite healing, resilience, and empowerment in underserved communities.
The name “Zealists” embodies an unwavering passion (“zeal”) for helping others rise from adversity and reclaim their purpose, especially among widows, orphans, at-risk youth, single mothers, and women affected by trauma.
